Pakistan successfully cleared from WADA watchlist after intense scrutiny
Pakistan has officially been removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) watchlist, marking a major breakthrough for the country’s sports community after months of uncertainty. This achievement comes as a direct result of relentless efforts by ADOP staff under the close guidance of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB). Under the leadership of Director General PSB, Muhammad Yasir Pirzada, corrective measures were swiftly introduced, including policy alignment and procedural reforms, ensuring Pakistan’s compliance with stringent international standards. In September 2024, Pakistan was formally conveyed that failure to meet critical anti-doping requirements by January 2025 would result in automatic non-compliance — a status that could have barred Pakistani athletes from competing under the national flag and risked international isolation. Commenting on the development, DG PSB Yasir Pirzada said: “This is not just a bureaucratic victory; it is a lifeline for Pakistani athletes and sports federations." The clearance from WADA reflects Pakistan’s commitment to clean sport and safeguard the future of its athletes on global platforms. For a nation preparing to showcase its talent on major international sporting stages, this clearance from WADA marks a vital and timely step forward.
According to official communication, WADA has confirmed the closure of compliance procedures against Pakistan’s Anti-Doping Organization (ADOP) following the completion of all pending corrective actions.
In its latest correspondence, WADA reiterated that Pakistan is no longer under enhanced monitoring, effectively ending speculation about potential sanctions.
