The III Asian Beach Games was held in Haiyang, China from 16th to 22nd June, 2012. The said games announced by Olympic Council of Asia in Doha on December 2, 2006. Haiyang is a coastal city in the peninsula province of Shandong in east China. It is strategically located in the centre of the prime tourist trio of Qingdao, Yantai, and Weihai.
Haiyang is known for its extensive sea beaches, national forest parks, wetland reserves, and also for beach and yacht activities.
On June 16, 2012 the third Asian Beach Games began with a rousing opening ceremony that included dancers, performers, soldiers and athletes. The event was the official kick-off for the multi-sport competition held every two years with athletes from Asian countries. The Asian Beach Games are regulated by the Olympic Council of Asia.
This year's opening ceremony was a spectacular show of theater with most performers coming from universities and martial arts schools within the Shandong province. The goal, according to event planners, was to have all performances represent a romantic and beautiful style.
